Your life... your story!
Well we did just that recently when we thought we'd caught up with the famous 'blonde nomads'!...
WRONG... but Glen & Kelly Warren and their 4 gorgeous kids have another equally fascinating story.
Amazingly they are not your typical 'blonde or even grey nomads' - They are a young family that are keen to try absolutely everything life has to offer and their idea of 'glamping' is very different to what is on offer today!
Kevin Butler is a former teacher who runs a sheep farm in Kilmore East. He and wife Robyn are the forces behind BlazeAid, which they started after the Black Saturday bush fires destroyed three kilometres of their fences back in February 2009.
BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the rural families.
Their volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.
Equally important, volunteers also help to lift the spirits of people who are often facing their second or third flood event after years of drought, or devastating losses through bushfires.
While neither of us are what you might call 'ambulance chasers' but with our collective mainstream media background, we're both very aware that the sound of a siren - particularly if approaching close by then stopping - can mean some kind of 'drama' is unfolding.
And this is exactly what happened while we were at the Stockton Beach Holiday Park in late September.
We'd gone up to Stockton (Newcastle NSW) for a week to catch up with some family and attend an event called 'WoodStockton' a one day music & food festival held at the local bowling club.
There's plenty of history available about 'Pirate Point' aka Stockton, Newcastle NSW!
And although the early days pre -1900 or so were probably a 'little rough'... growing up there in the 50's and 60's as a young kid was pretty amazing.
So amazing in fact that as kids we were probably a little 'spoilt' compared to kids of the same age in other suburbs around the country.
Why? - Well for me it was because we had unlimited access to a river, sand dunes, an amazing surf, a great 'culture' of local sport, good schools and a community that really seemed to actually like and support each other!
You've heard of the Travelling Wilbury's right?...
But what about The String Family?... travelling full time around Australia right now...
Two teenage kids PLUS they are all amazing musicians not only paying their way around AU by playing some great music but showing that travelling with teenage kids can have its benefits too!
This short video 'doco' reveals what life on the road is like as a travelling musical family
You can also watch their Batlow Ciderfest gig here!
Given our working life has been radio & television production over way too many years to mention here, part of our role then - and today - is to ask people... "so tell us your story? - what stands out in YOUR life?"
And the expectation of course is we'll hear all kinds of often strange but true stories if - and ONLY if - the time is right to tell those stories.
But when it comes to telling your own story we can see how some people might just be a little ummm - 'reluctant' or maybe embarrassed to tell all. Sometimes it's because they are shy.
